(Differential Diagnosis of Low Back Pain)

Differential diagnosis of low back pain involves considering a range of potential causes to determine the underlying source of the pain. This process takes into account a patient’s medical history, symptoms, physical examination results, and imaging tests. Some common causes of low back pain include herniated discs, spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, osteoarthritis, and muscle or ligament strains. Other less common causes include spinal tumors, infections, and inflammatory conditions such as arthritis. The differential diagnosis process helps healthcare providers rule out serious or potentially life-threatening causes, such as cancer or nerve compression, and determine the most appropriate course of treatment for the patient.
