Introduction
The Unit for Combating Violence Against Women at Deraya University was established as part of the University’s leading role in promoting human values and fostering a culture of equality and respect within and beyond the campus community. The Unit reflects the University’s firm commitment to providing a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that is free from all forms of violence and discrimination, while safeguarding and advancing women’s rights.
Objectives
- Raise awareness of the risks and consequences of violence against women.
- Promote mutual respect and equality among all members of the University community.
- Provide psychological and legal support to survivors of violence.
- Empower women academically, socially, and professionally through training programs, workshops, and awareness initiatives.

Mission
To foster a safe educational and social environment that respects women’s rights and supports them in overcoming barriers. Through education, prevention, advocacy, and support services, the Unit works to eliminate violence against women and to advance gender equality within Deraya University and the broader society.

Establishment
Founded in 2024, the Unit was created with a clear vision to advance women’s causes and address the challenges they face both within the University and in the wider community.
Rationale
Deraya University recognizes that a university is more than an educational institution—it is also a partner in community development. For this reason, the Unit was established as a platform to support women and to contribute to positive social change in perceptions of their rights and status.

Support and Empowerment
Providing women who experience violence or discrimination with access to psychological, social, and legal support, while offering guidance toward appropriate solutions.
Awareness and Education
Organizing campaigns, workshops, and events to highlight the dangers of violence, its impact on individuals and society, and the importance of equality and mutual respect.
Training and Capacity Building
Offering development programs for female students, faculty, and staff to enhance their skills and support their academic and professional ambitions.
Advocacy and Collaboration
Working in partnership with local and national institutions to strengthen efforts to combat violence against women and to promote gender equity.
