The Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) is dedicated to advancing the practice of teaching and enhancing the experience of learning. Our mission is to provide resources, workshops, and support to educators across all disciplines and career stages, fostering an innovative and collaborative academic community. In collaboration with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), we proudly organize courses tailored to elevate the academic experiences of our community members.
The Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) at the university is responsible for developing the educational process within the university. This is done through training faculty members and support staff on modern educational systems and strategies. The training process includes conducting training courses and workshops at the center, and providing support and guidance to members on innovative teaching methods and how to implement them within the university. It is planned that there will be two tracks for the courses: a compulsory track for newly appointed support staff, and an optional track for faculty members to develop their teaching skills.
The Center of Teaching and Learning at Deraya University organized a workshop on July 10, 2023, titled ‘Strategies for Effective Hybrid Education’ at the center’s headquarters within Deraya University, in cooperation with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The workshop discussed the opportunities and challenges of hybrid education in classrooms, including the use of modern methods to stimulate learning, such as artificial intelligence. Participants were also trained on applying an educational framework for managing remote learning. 17 trainees, including faculty members and their assistants from the colleges of pharmacy, physiotherapy, dentistry, and business management, attended the workshop.
Dr. Yasmin Youssef, the accredited lecturer at the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and an expert in Interactive Educational Technology (ICT), delivered the workshop. At the end of the course, participants received a certified certificate from DAAD.
These courses are part of the university’s plan, represented by the Center for Teaching and Learning, to enhance the quality of the educational process in teaching, assessment, and keeping pace with global changes in education and measuring students’ skills at various levels. These courses target all faculty members, their assistants, and graduate students in all specialties within the university.”
Deraya University’s Center for Teaching and Learning organized a workshop on July 12, 2023, titled ‘Constructive Assessment for Learning’ at the center’s headquarters within Deraya University in collaboration with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The workshop aimed to enhance assessment skills by discussing various topics such as deep learning vs. surface learning, formative assessment vs. summative assessment, Bloom’s taxonomy, and individual assessment. Participants were trained on how to apply fundamental concepts and principles in teaching and learning in higher education, including constructive alignment, curriculum design, and assessment for learning, by reviewing modern trends in effective assessment.
19 trainees, including faculty members and their assistants from the faculties of Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Dentistry, and Business Administration, attended the workshop. Dr. Reham Bahi, an accredited lecturer with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and a professor of International Relations at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at Cairo University, conducted the workshop. At the end of the course, participants received a certified certificate from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

Deraya University’s Center for Teaching and Learning organized a workshop on July 24, 2023, titled “Problem Solving and Teamwork Enhancement “at the center’s headquarters within Deraya University in collaboration with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
The workshop aimed to study techniques/methods of problem solving that can be effectively used in the workplace and to train faculty members on these techniques as a means of group communication and team integration by applying the 9-step problem-solving methodology. The workshop also focused on using effective communication tools to enhance team dynamics, as well as utilizing delegation and empowerment techniques within work teams.
20 trainees, including faculty members and their assistants from the faculties of Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Dentistry, and Business Administration, attended the workshop. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Mohamed Taha, an accredited lecturer with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and an international trainer at the German University in Egypt. At the end of the course, participants received a certified certificate from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
