Deraya University hosted the U.S. Embassy’s Regional English Language Office (RELO) to conduct the first RELO Educational HUB for the ELT professionals and English language teachers for two days on Friday and Saturday August 30^th – 31^st, 2019. The conference, entitled “Innovative Practices in ELT”, aimed to help the teachers enhance their performance and gain new skills.

This Hub is considered the first collaboration between the RELO and a private university.

The opening ceremony was attended by:

• Emad Hamdi Ghoz – President of Deraya University
• Helen LaFave – U.S. Embassy Cairo’s Minister Counselor for Public Affairs
• Micah Risher – Director of the Regional English Language Office for Egypt U.S. Embassy in Cairo
• Muhammed Khalil Mousa – President of NileTESOL

The plenary speakers were:

• Jennifer Borch – Educational Program Manager at U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants in Colchester, Vermont
• Ryan Brux – Program Director at an International High School in Shanghai, China
