Visit to Mebaco Factory for Pharmaceuticals and Medicinal Plants

The PEF Association at the College of Pharmacy at Deraya University recently organized a field visit to the Mebaco Factory for Medicines and Medicinal Plants in Anshas – Al-Sharqia Governorate.
Supervisors
The visit was supervised by the leader of the association, Professor/ Osama Ramadan Abdel Mohsen, Head of the Pharmacognosy Department, Faculty of Pharmacy, Deraya University.

And in the presence of Dr. Nourhan Shady, a teacher at the Department of Pharmacology, Deraya University, and Dr. Omnia Hisham, a teacher at the Department of Pharmacology, Deraya University, and Dr. Ihab Essam – Teaching Assistant, Department of Pharmacology, Deraya University, and Dr. Mahmoud Abdel Nasser, Teaching Assistant, Department of Biochemistry, University of Deraya, with the participation of a large number of college students in various teams.

The students were warmly welcomed by Dr. Mokhtar Beshr, the Factory Director, who accompanied them throughout the tour. The first stop was the plant farm where medicinal plants are grown. The students were introduced to the different plants and their uses in medicine. They learned about the various techniques used to cultivate these plants, such as watering, fertilization, and pest control.

The students were then taken through the different stages of factory work. They were shown the process of extracting active substances from these plants using chemical solvents.

They were then taken to the stage of concentration of these extracts and their chemical examination. Here, the students were able to see the complex machinery and equipment used in this process.

The stage of storage and pharmaceutical manufacturing

The next stage was storage and pharmaceutical manufacturing. The students were shown how the extracts are stored in a controlled environment and how they are transformed into finished products. They were given a detailed explanation of the manufacturing process and how each product is tested to ensure that it meets the required quality standards.

The students were also shown the research and sterilization laboratories for cosmetics. Here, they were introduced to the various devices and techniques used to sterilize equipment and ensure the safety and efficacy of cosmetic products.

At the end of the tour, samples of the factory’s products were distributed to the students. This gave them the opportunity to see first-hand the high-quality products that are produced at the Mebaco Factory.

The field visit was an excellent opportunity for the students to gain practical experience and knowledge about the pharmaceutical industry. It allowed them to see how the theoretical knowledge they acquire at the university is applied in real-life situations. The students also had the opportunity to interact with industry experts, which is an invaluable experience for their future careers.

Overall, the visit was a great success, and the students were grateful for the opportunity to learn from industry professionals. The PEF Association at the Faculty of Pharmacy at Deraya University deserves commendation for organizing this educational field trip, which will undoubtedly benefit the students in their future careers in the pharmaceutical industry.
