The Sustainability Research Center at Deraya University launched the “Early Detection Initiative for Diseases,” and its first activity was about early detection of breast cancer in cooperation with the Baheya Foundation. This event is part of the university’s continuing efforts to raise awareness of health issues and encourage community health. Ms. Radwa Al-Khatib, Public Relations Officer at Baheya Foundation; Prof. Dr. Yasser Mohamed Abdel Gawad, Consultant Oncologist and Director General of the Oncology Institute in Minya; Mr. Magdy Okasha, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Minya; Ms. Manal Abdel Salam Ahmed (Member of the National Council for Women in Minya); attended the event.

Under the patronage of Prof. Irene Atef, Vice President of Community and International Affairs, and Prof. Mohamed Mostafa, Vice President of Education and Student Affairs, in addition to a group of academic figures, students, and faculty members.

The Importance of Breast Cancer Early Detection

One of the most common diseases affecting women worldwide is breast cancer. The WHO –World Health Organization– states that one of the most crucial elements in lowering the death rates from breast cancer is early detection.

Frequent screening decreases treatment costs and improves the likelihood of a favorable outcome by identifying cancers in their early stages. Regular breast cancer checking has been linked to a significantly greater survival rate for women than for those whose disease is discovered in an advanced stage, according to studies

In this context, the event highlighted the importance of self-examination and periodic medical examinations for women. Ms. Radwa Al-Khatib, Public Relations Officer at *Baheya Foundation*, indicated that the Baheya Foundation always seeks to support women across Egypt by providing free healthcare and raising awareness of the importance of periodic examination, which helps improve quality of life and increase health awareness.

An exclusive women’s seminar to increase awareness of breast cancer

An awareness conference for women with breast cancer was arranged as part of today’s events, with an emphasis on the significance of routine medical exams and periodic self-examination.

The session included the most recent medical procedures and treatment approaches for breast cancer, as well as practical advice on how to do a self-examination correctly and identify early warning signals. Additionally, attendees had the chance to ask questions and engage with specialists, which helped them become more conscious of the importance of maintaining good health and scheduling routine examinations.

Early Detection Initiative within the Framework of Social Responsibility

The Early Detection of Breast Cancer Initiative is one of the many activities organized by Deraya University Center for Research in Sustainability

In this context, the university, in cooperation with the Baheya Foundation and the National Council for Women in Minya Governorate, organized a campaign for the early detection of diseases for women, which allowed them to undergo medical examinations free.
